Krampus is a mini-boss that can occasionally appear inside of a Devil Room.

Behavior

Krampus moves randomly around the room in cardinal directions and can perform the following attacks:

• Stops and fires Brimstone lasers in all 4 cardinal or diagonal directions.
  • The lasers can sometimes rotate 90 degrees in either direction after being shot.
    • Krampus signals rotating Brimstone lasers by growling and quickly dashing towards Isaac before performing this attack.
• Fires 3 projectiles in a spread followed by 4 projectiles in a spread in succession towards Isaac.

Krampus deals a whole heart of contact damage.

  Head of Krampus - Defeat Krampus.

Notes

• Beating Krampus the first time will unlock Head of Krampus.
• Encountering Krampus replaces both the statue of Satan as well as any deals in regular Devil Rooms.
• Chaos will not change the items dropped from Krampus.
• Rerolling A Lump of Coal or Head of Krampus causes another Devil Room Pool item to appear.
• Krampus can never appear in the first Devil Room entered on a run.

Trivia

• His name and appearance are based on Krampus, an alpine folkloric figure. It supposedly acts as a antithesis to Saint Nicholas, punishing children who misbehave near Christmas time.
  • This is most likely why A Lump of Coal is in his item pool.
• Krampus is both visually and behaviorally similar to The Fallen, but does not split upon death.
• Krampus can spawn in Greed Mode without needing to be unlocked.
  • Defeating Krampus when encountered here still unlocks Head of Krampus even if Krampus himself has not yet been unlocked.
• In an AMA subreddit thread for Edmund McMillen, a user questioned why Krampus got "worse with every update." Edmund McMillen jokingly responded, "he's the new bloat."; referencing the general hatred some fans have towards The Bloat.
• Despite Krampus receiving a redesign in Repentance, Delirium's Krampus appearance has yet to be updated.
• Red Mini-Boss Rooms created by Red Key (etc.) can contain a battle against Krampus.
• Krampus is tied with The Fallen as having the highest Stage HP among all entities in the game.
