Obstacles
Obstacles are objects that will get in Isaac's way in rooms.
Indestructible Objects[edit | edit source]
Metal Blocks[edit | edit source]
- Blocks movement and projectiles.
- An explosion's blast radius will not extend past it.
- Cannot be destroyed or removed.
- Can be re-rolled by the
D12
Re-rolls all rocks in the current room into other random objects, such as bomb rocks, metal blocks, TNT, or poops. into a destructible obstacle.
- Can only be moved over via flying or jumping.
- Sometimes found encasing an item.
Key Blocks[edit | edit source]
- Acts like metal blocks.
- Requires a key to unlock.
- Cannot be flown over.
- Small chance to drop a random pickup when unlocked.
Indestructible Hazards[edit | edit source]
Spikes[edit | edit source]
- Can be walked over, but will damage Isaac in the process.
- Deal one heart of damage upon contact with the player (unless the player has
Callus
Prevents damage from creep and spikes., the ability to jump, or flight to avoid being damaged).
- Sacrifice Room spikes will damage Isaac even with flight.
They can be deactivated from Silver Buttons.
Retractable Spikes[edit | edit source]
- Retract and extend on timers.
- Can be walked over safely while they are retracted.
Deactivates when all Silver Buttons are pressed.
Pitfall[edit | edit source]
- When Isaac falls into a pitfall, he takes damage and pops back out after a short delay.
- Suction pitfalls attract Isaac and are most often found in trap rooms with Silver Buttons.
- Pitfalls are spawned by several of Little Horn's attacks.
- Flight makes Isaac immune to pitfalls.
- Stationary pitfalls disappear after falling into them.
- Rooms with pitfalls and silver buttons are most common in The Cathedral.
Destructible[edit | edit source]
Rocks[edit | edit source]
- Blocks movement and projectiles.
- Can be destroyed with explosions and certain items like the
Notched Axe
Isaac holds the axe above his head for as long as the spacebar button is held (or until he leaves the room). While holding the axe, Isaac can break any rock he touches, but cannot attack or pick up other items.,
The Nail
Adds one soul heart and allows the breaking of rocks and damaging enemies by simply walking over them. Increases damage and decreases speed. All effects except for the Soul Heart wear off upon leaving the room.,
Leo
Allows you to crush rocks when you walk over them., or
Thunder Thighs
Destroys rocks upon contact with Isaac. Adds one heart container and lowers Speed..
- Can fill in a 1-block wide gap when pushed in the right direction by an explosion, or with one of the abilities that allows destruction by walking onto the rock.
- Note: With these items, it is important to walk in the direction of the gap.
- Small chance to reveal a Crawl Space when destroyed.
- Destroying 100 rocks will unlock the
Lucky Rock
Each obstacle destroyed drops one coin. trinket.
Tinted Rocks[edit | edit source]
Sometimes referred to as "Marked Rocks", they are always marked with an "x", and in some levels slightly tinted/discolored. These rocks are much less noticeable in The Womb and Utero due to them being the same color as the surrounding rocks, but can still be distinguished by the "x" on the bottom right.
- Destroying 10 Tinted Rocks will unlock
Mr. Mega
Gives Isaac 5 bombs, and makes all dropped bombs larger, which have an increased blast radius and increased damage..
- Destroying 100 Tinted Rocks will unlock
The Small Rock
Increases damage by 1, increases tears by 0.2, and decreases speed by 0.1..
Found in: Every Stage
Tinted Rocks have a chance to spawn 1-2 of the following when destroyed:
- Soul hearts
- Keys
- Bombs
- Golden chests (only one)
- A combination of any of the items mentioned above
The Small Rock
Increases damage by 1, increases tears by 0.2, and decreases speed by 0.1. (after it is unlocked) (Sometimes spawns with additional pickups, but cannot spawn alongside chests.)
Super Special Rocks

Super Special Rocks are Tinted Rock variants which are much harder to spot, as they have a smaller mark and are not discolored. Super Special Rocks take two bombs to blow up, and drop the contents of two Tinted Rocks.
Super Special Rocks are unlocked by: Get a 5-win streak, using a different character for each win
5 Nights at Mom's
Bomb Rocks[edit | edit source]
Act like rocks.
Found in: Low chance of replacing any rock.
Bomb rocks can be found anywhere a normal rock can spawn. They can only be destroyed by explosions and "stompy" items, like normal rocks. When they are destroyed, they create an explosion. Note that destroying a bomb rock next to a hole does not create a bridge as with normal rocks.
Urns[edit | edit source]
Act like rocks.
Found in:
Urns have a chance to spawn the following when destroyed:
- 1-3 Spiders
- A few coins
A Quarter
Adds 25 to Isaac's coin count, capping at 99.
Swallowed Penny
Upon taking damage, Isaac drops a penny.
Mushrooms[edit | edit source]
- Act like rocks.
Found in:
Mushrooms have a chance to spawn the following when destroyed:
- Pills
- Poisonous gas, which knocks back Isaac and deals a half-heart damage. (This does not count as an explosion.)
Liberty Cap
Grants a chance of triggering Mini Mush, Odd Mushroom (Large), Odd Mushroom (Thin) or The Compass effects for the current room upon entering it.
Magic Mushroom
Increases all stats and enlargens Isaac.
Mini Mush
Increases Speed and Shot Height and decreases Isaac's size, but lowers Range.
Skulls[edit | edit source]
Act like rocks.
Found in:
Skulls have a chance to spawn the following when destroyed:
- Host enemies
- Tarot cards
- Black hearts
- Runes
Dry Baby
Spawns a familiar that follows Isaac around and blocks enemy projectiles. Upon blocking a shot, it has a chance of triggering The Necronomicon effect.
Ghost Baby
Spawns a familiar that follows Isaac around and fires spectral tears.

- 6 red tears in all directions and a puddle of bloody creep
Blood Clot
Increases damage by 1 and range by 5 for tears fired from the left eye.
Placenta
Grants a full heart container, and a chance to regenerate a half-heart of health every minute of gameplay.
Umbilical Cord
When Isaac's health is brought to half a red heart and no soul hearts, a Little Steven familiar spawns for the current room.
Harlequin Baby
Spawns a familiar that follows Isaac around and fires two tears at once in a V-pattern.

Destructible Hazards[edit | edit source]
Fireplace[edit | edit source]
- Deals a half-heart of damage when touched.
- Can be extinguished by tears, bombs, or explosions.
- Chance to drop coins or hearts when extinguished.
- Piercing tears can pierce through fireplaces and all of their variants. Spectral tears, however, are blocked.
Red Fireplace[edit | edit source]
- Can shoot red projectiles at medium speed at Isaac.
- They do not telegraph before firing shots.
- Shots fired from a Red Fireplace will not spawn directly on the Red Fireplace, but rather near the fire.
- If Isaac stands too close when a Red Fireplace shoots, the bullet will spawn on Isaac, thus the bullet can't be dodged.
Pyromaniac
Isaac heals 1 heart instead of taking damage from an explosive source. Adds 5 bombs. makes Isaac immune to these bullets.
- Can be extinguished like normal fireplaces.
- Chance to drop coins or hearts when extinguished.
- Can rarely replace normal Fireplaces.
If all Silver Buttons are pressed, the Red fireplaces will turn into normal fireplaces.
Blue Fireplace[edit | edit source]
- Chance to drop a soul heart when extinguished.
- Can only be put out by the following:
- Bombs/explosions and rock blasts such as from

Isaac farts, sending out rock waves..
- The Adversary's
Brimstone
Tears are replaced by a laser beam that pierces through all enemies and obstacles in its path and deals high damage. Can only be fired after a short charge-up period..
Little Horn
Adds a chance to fire a piercing tear that instantly kills any enemy that it touches. tears.
- Bombs/explosions and rock blasts such as from
Purple Fireplace[edit | edit source]
- Fires purple homing tears at Isaac that deal a full heart of damage.
- Chance to drop a soul heart when extinguished.
- Can only be put out the same way as Blue Fireplaces.
- Can rarely replace Blue fireplaces.
Rarely, they'll appear in a room that needs to be cleared by pressing Silver Buttons. When all are pressed, the purple fireplaces will turn blue.
TNT[edit | edit source]
- Blocks movement.
- Can be destroyed by tears or explosions.
- Explodes when destroyed.
- Small chance to drop a
Match Stick
Increases the chance of Bombs dropping after clearing a room, and the chance of finding Bombs when opening a Chest. or a
Burnt Penny
Gives a 50% chance to drop a bomb when money is collected. when destroyed.
Pushable TNT

- Can be pushed around by Isaac and enemies.
- Can be destroyed by tears or explosions.
- Explodes when destroyed.
- Occasionally replaces normal TNT.
- Can be spawned with
Mine Crafter
When used, places an explosive TNT barrel that can be pushed and used to destroy rocks or damage enemies. If used a second time in the same room while the previous TNT barrel is still intact, it will remotely explode the TNT..
- Will explode when pushed into fire.
Cobweb[edit | edit source]
- Slows Isaac's movement.
- If Isaac possesses flight then they have no effect.
- Can be destroyed using explosions.
- Can be destroyed by replacing with
The Poop
Spawns a pile of poop where the character is standing and knocks nearby monsters back. May yield pickups like regular poop.'s poop and then clearing the poop.

The Poop
Spawns a pile of poop where the character is standing and knocks nearby monsters back. May yield pickups like regular poop. and has chance to be created every 30 seconds from the trinket
Mysterious Candy
Isaac farts or poops at random intervals. Getting hit can also trigger the effect..
- If a Black Fly stays around Poop for long enough, it will morph into a Pooter.
- Destroying 100 poops unlocks the
Butter Bean
Isaac farts and pushes back nearby enemies..
Corny Poop[edit | edit source]
- Has a small chance to drop coins or hearts when destroyed.
- Has an Eternal Fly orbiting it that will become an Attack Fly upon destruction of the poop.
Red Poop[edit | edit source]
- Deals a half-heart of damage when touched.
Leo
Allows you to crush rocks when you walk over them./
Thunder Thighs
Destroys rocks upon contact with Isaac. Adds one heart container and lowers Speed. allows Isaac to walk over and destroy red poop without taking damage. Isaac will still take damage if he is standing on it when it reforms.
- Drops nothing when destroyed.
- Reforms in 3 seconds after being destroyed.
- Normally produced by Carrion Queen and red champion Dingle, but can also be found in specific room configurations in various rooms.
In some rooms that need to be cleared by pressing silver buttons, red poop will turn into regular poop once all the buttons are pressed.
Golden Poop[edit | edit source]
- Harder to destroy than the normal poop.
- Drops 5-9 coins or the
Counterfeit Penny
Gives a 50% chance of increasing the value of every coin pickup by one. trinket when destroyed.

Changes all enemies in the room into poop. Does not work on all enemies (Knights and bosses are immune). Instantly kills Dingle, Dangle, and Brownie.,

Enemies that touch you are stunned and turn gold. Any enemy killed while in this state will drop a coin..
- If a Black Fly comes in contact with a Golden Poop, it will turn into a Pooter.
Rainbow Poop[edit | edit source]
- Causes a rainbow to appear on the screen when destroyed; pauses the game for a second while playing a jingle.
- Restores all of Isaac's red heart containers.
- Rainbow Poop provides no benefit for characters without red heart containers such as ???.
If Isaac has
Bozo
Increases damage by a flat 0.1 and grants a soul heart. Enemies can randomly become briefly charmed or feared. Taking damage has a chance to spawn a rainbow poop., when he takes damage, he has a chance to spawn a Rainbow Poop.
- Can cause a neutral fly to turn into a turret fly if it touches the Rainbow Poop.
Black Poop

- Also known as Meconium poop.
- Darkens the current room as if Curse of Darkness was active for a few seconds when destroyed.
- Deals 10 damage and applies the 'Confusion' status effect to all enemies in the room when destroyed.
- Does not spawn any pickups when destroyed even with
Petrified Poop
Greatly increases the chances of a pickup dropping when destroying poop..

White Poop

- White poop is surrounded by an aura that halves tear delay and has a high chance to block damage like the

Grants a soul heart. Adds a chance to block enemy shots. item while Isaac stands within it.
- The aura disappears if the poop is destroyed.
- Has a small chance to drop coins or hearts when destroyed.

Hallowed Ground
Spawns a white poop familiar, which turns into a white poop when Isaac is hurt., when he takes damage for the first time in a room, a white poop spawns.

Dirt Patch[edit | edit source]
- Dirt Patches are a small mound of dirt that can be dug into with certain items.
- Using
Mom's Shovel
Spawns a trapdoor that leads to the next floor upon activation. Unlocks The Forgotten when used on a mound of dirt that appears in The Dark Room. on top of a dirt patch will reveal a skeleton and unlock The Forgotten.

We Need to Go Deeper!
Creates a trapdoor to go to the next floor. If used in The Womb, it will create a trapdoor to Sheol, even if the player hasn't unlocked it., or
Ehwaz
Creates a trapdoor leading to the next floor. Has an estimated 1/12 (8%) chance to spawn a door to a Crawl Space instead. on top of a dirt patch will dig up a random chest.
