The Chaos Card is a Special Card.

Effects

  • Upon activation, Isaac throws the card in front of himself.
    • The card is thrown in the direction Isaac's body is facing, meaning the card will be thrown in the direction Isaac is moving. If he is stationary, it will be thrown in the last direction that Isaac moved.
  • The thrown card kills anything in its path (including end-game Bosses like ??? and otherwise indestructible entities like Stone Grimaces and moving spikes) and gets stuck in the ground/wall after being thrown.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) The only exception to this is Delirium.
  • The card can open doors as if a bomb had exploded them, although it can not open any locked doors or open the big door in the starting room of Dark Room and The Chest.
  • The card can extinguish fires and break rocks, potentially revealing Crawl Spaces.

Notes

  • Using it on multi-phase bosses like Isaac, ??? and The Lamb will instantly end the boss fight.
    • Using it on Satan during his first form will end the fight, despite him having multiple forms and health bars. Using it on The Fallen instead of Satan himself will not end the fight.
      • However, using it on Mega Satan will only skip one phase.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) However, it will do absolutely nothing towards Delirium, as it is the only enemy immune to chaos card; the card will simply disappear.
    • (except in Rebirth) It will only kill one phase of Hush unless you throw it from the bottom side.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) It will only kill one phase of Ultra Greed in Greedier Mode.
  • To aim the card correctly, make sure to move in the direction that it needs to be thrown; shooting in a direction will not fire it in that direction.
  • Does not kill Beggars or shop keepers.
  • Can kill normally indestructible enemies like the Masks of Mask + Hearts (though this will not kill the heart), Hosts while they're invulnerable, the little chubs in Chubbers, and Death's Heads. It can also be used to kill things typically not considered alive like moving spike blocks and Stone Grimaces.
  • The Chaos Card can also open secret rooms if you don't have a spare bomb.
  • If it is used against Scolex while he's jumping, it will not instantly kill him and will instead cut off the bottom of his tail, dealing some damage. Although his weak point will no longer be visible, he will still be vulnerable.

Synergies

  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance)Collectible Angelic Prism iconAngelic Prism: If the Chaos Card passes through the prism, it will replicate the Chaos Card four times each in their respective colors.
  • Collectible Blank Card iconBlank Card: Allows for an easy run by allowing unlimited usage of the card.
    • Items such as Collectible Habit iconHabit, Collectible 9 Volt icon9 Volt, and (except in Rebirth)Collectible Charged Baby iconCharged Baby give more opportunities to use the card since all these items decrease the charge time of Blank Card.
    • Collectible The Battery iconThe Battery allows Blank Card to be used twice in a room, allowing multi-phase bosses to be killed instantly.

Trivia

  • The icon, name and functionality are all a reference to the Magic: The Gathering card Chaos Orb. This card is famous for its unusual effect: the card is flipped from a height of over one foot above the board and all cards it touches as it lands are destroyed.
